Dr. Brummett is an anesthesiologist and pain physician. He is the Director of the Division of Pain Research and, more broadly, is the Director of Clinical Research in the Department of Anesthesiology. He also leads an institution-wide initiative to create a biorepository for research of genetic factors associated with the development of disease and response to treatment. He is the recipient of the 2017 James E. Cottrell, M.D., Presidential Scholar Award.
Dr. Brummett's work focuses on the mechanisms of opioid non-responsiveness in centralized pain states. In addition, as one of the Co-PI’s of the Michigan Opioid Prescribing Engagement Network (Michigan-OPEN), he studies the appropriate perioperative opioid management and safe disposal as a preventative approach to the opioid epidemic.
