Dr. Machicado earned his medical degree from Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in Lima, Peru, and went on to receive a Master of Public Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, followed by a gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and an advanced therapeutic endoscopy fellowship at the University of Colorado. Dr. Machicado joined the University of Michigan’s faculty in 2021, where he is a recognized clinical expert in pancreatic disorders and pancreatobiliary endoscopy, and has authored over 120 peer-reviewed articles, primarily on pancreatitis and pancreatic cysts. His research centers on developing innovative strategies to improve pain management for patients with chronic pancreatitis.
